Welcome to Chicken Worth Eating
Chicken Worth Eating is a farm located in Akron, NY. The farm is run by me, Ben Gehl, my wife Lori, and our three children Jack, Micah and Mattie. We produce pastured chickens, pastured eggs, pastured pork, and pastured turkeys. As the farm continues to grow, we hope to offer more, so stay tuned!
What is a pastured chicken?
We raise our chickens on pasture, which means that they live in a large floor-less pen giving the birds access to fresh grass and bugs. Each day we move the pens to clean grass and give the birds some supplemental grain. Their meat is high quality and since the birds "eat their salad" they are very high in the good cholesterol and low in the bad. The stock made from these birds has an amazing rich flavor. Just as important, we slaughter the chickens ourselves. We take great care to prevent contamination and pride ourselves in clean birds. Raising chickens this way has been highlighted in several recent books and movies, such as Omnivores Dilemma and Food, Inc.
